Fifth Grade Computer Technology Benchmarks

 

A Guide for Parent Involvement

 

Objective: Fifth grade students should be able to use and create spreadsheets and databases and discuss the advantages/disadvantages of various input, output, and storage devices.

 
1st Six Weeks

5.1 The student will develop a basic technology vocabulary that includes bits, bytes, binary logic, database, field, LAN, network, record, remote, scanner, sort, and WAN. (C/T5.2)

5.2 The student will distinguish among computer memory, RAM and ROM. (C/T5.1)

 

2nd Six Weeks

5.4 The student will reinforce keyboarding skills through products of assignments and projects across the curriculum. (C/T5.2)

 

3rd Six Weeks

5.5 The student will prepare a spreadsheet and a database using existing templates. (C/T5.4) 

 

4th Six Weeks

5.3 The student will select and combine various technology components to prepare assignments and projects across the curriculum. (C/T5.2)

 

 

5th Six Weeks

5.6 The student will operate peripheral devices appropriate to tasks. (C/T5.2)

 

6th Six Weeks

5.7 The student will be able to retrieve information from the internet and will apply age appropriate critical thinking skills to gather information by critiquing as to validity and relevance. (C/T5.3)
