Rockingham County Public Schools Fourth Grade Computer Technology Benchmarks   A Guide for Parent Involvement   Objective: Fourth grade students should be aware of copyright laws, the Rockingham County Public Schools Acceptable Use Policy, knowledge of programming techniques, research using the internet, and e-mail.
1st Six Weeks 4.5 The student will use proper keyboarding techniques when composing and entering information at the computer. (C/T5.2) 4.6 The student will practice keyboard shortcuts, such as quit and save, cut, copy and paste. (C/T5.2) 4.8 The student will demonstrate word processing skills of writing and naming and file management skills of saving and retrieving stories. Students will create 1-2 page document using keyboarding skills, writing process steps, spell checking the document, editing, saving to a disk, retrieving a saved document, and printing. (C/T5.3, C/T5.4)	2nd Six Weeks 4.7 The student will use database and spreadsheet programs. (C/T5.4)	3rd Six Weeks 4.1a The student will develop a basic computer vocabulary that includes programming terms: bit, byte, bug, command, debug, program and programmer. (C/T5.2) 4.1b The student will develop a basic application program vocabulary that includes database and spreadsheet. (C/T5.2) 4.1c The student will develop a basic vocabulary of other hardware and software terms which includes CPU, copyright, data, file, freeze?crash/bomb, link, load, microchip, pixel, RAM and ROM. (C/T5.2)
4th Six Weeks 4.2 The student will be introduced to the term "network" an how information is shared over local and wide-area networks. (C/T5.3, C/T5.4) 4.4 The student will follow copyright laws and policies concerning acceptable use.	5th Six Weeks 4.9 With assistance and supervision, the student will research information using Internet searches. (C/T5.4) 4.10 With assistance, the student will operate peripheral devices appropriate to task. (C/T5.2)	6th Six Weeks 4.11 The student will be introduced to the concepts of RAM and ROM. (C/T5.1)
