Third Grade Computer Technology Benchmarks

 

A Guide for Parent Involvement

 

Objective: Third grade students will be introduced to higher levels of vocabulary, keyboarding skills, and peripheral devices. Students will demonstrate basic knowledge of word processing skills in writing.

 

1st Six Weeks

3.4 The student will select appropriate computer application software for specific tasks and/or problem solving skills. (C/T5.3)

3.5 The student will regularly use hands on the appropriate sides of the keyboard and be able to place fingers on the home keys. (C/T5.2)

 

2nd Six Weeks

3.6 The student will be introduced to the digital camera as a peripheral device. (C/T5.2)

3.7 The student will participate in a class project that uses reference materials on CD-ROM and the Internet to gather information. (C/T5.3)

 

3rd Six Weeks

3.1a The student will develop a basic hardware-related technology vocabulary that includes floppy disk, hard drive, memory, modem, peripheral devices, surge and surge protector. (C/T5.2)

3.1b The student will develop a basic software-related vocabulary which includes copy, highlight, input, output, retrieve, user and window. (C/T5.2)

 

 

 
4th Six Weeks

3.2 The student will distinguish between information in the computer’s memory and information held in storage mediums(floppy disk, CD-ROM and laser disks). (C/T5.3)

3.3 The student will be introduced to the term copyright and issues surrounding it, as well as acceptable uses of technology. (C/T5.3)

    5th Six Weeks

    3.8 The student will demonstrate basic word processing skills in writing, editing, adding graphics, and printing the story. (C/T5.4)

    3.9 With assistance, the student will use pull down commands to cut, copy, paste, change font, style, and size of text. (C/T5.4)

    3.10 The student will demonstrate how to save and retrieve a document. (C/T5.3)

     

     
    6th Six Weeks

    3.1c The student will develop a basic telecommunications-related vocabulary which includes bookmark, e-mail, e-mail address, Netscape and on-line. (C/T5.2)
