Rockingham County Public Schools Second Grade Computer Technology Benchmarks   A Guide for Parent Involvement   Objective: Second grade children should be familiar with the keyboard and program operations. Students will continue to use computers as a learning tool.
1st Six Weeks 2.4 The student will use the shift key to type capital letters and relevant characters. (C/T5.2)	2nd Six Weeks 2.5 The student will insert and eject a CD or disk. (C/T5.3) 2.6 The student will start up and quit programs from the At Ease folder, CD-ROM and floppy disk. (C/T5.3)	3rd Six Weeks 2.1 The student will develop a basic technology vocabulary that includes At Ease folder, cancel, click and drag, command or "apple" key, eject, escape, file server, Internet, library barcode, library barcode reader, login, power key, power on light, search, shift and word processing. (C/T5.2)
4th Six Weeks 2.2 The student will use fingers on both hands on the keyboard (not necessarily correct finger placement). (C/T5.2) 2.3 The student will locate all keys on the keyboard. (C/T5.2)	5th Six Weeks 2.7 The student will type 2-3 sentences using a word processing program. (C/T5.4)	6th Six Weeks 2.8 The student will participate in teacher demonstrated Internet searches. (C/T5.3)
