Sixth Grade Computer/Technology Benchmarks

 

A Guide for Parent Involvement

 

NOTE: In grade six, students are expected to regularly use classroom, library, and lab computers for the primary purpose of supplementing classroom instruction in the core (math, science, social studies, and language arts) and elective subjects and to prepare for the formal instruction in computer technology they will receive in grades 7 and 8. The benchmarks shown below are repeated each six weeks.

 

1st Six Weeks

Computer Technology Terminology (C/T 8.3)

• Identify input and output devices necessary for using computer software for the purpose of supplementing classroom instruction in math, science, language arts, and social studies.

 

Machine and Software Operations (C/T 8.4)

• Power on and off computers and peripherals

• Use menus including icons, pull down menus, and tool bars to select software and options

• Protect hardware and data

• Troubleshoot basic hardware and software problems

 

Word Processing Skill Development (C/T 8.1)

• Enter text and save as file

• Retrieve files and edit documents for accuracy, content, spelling, and punctuation

• Print documents

 

Introduction to Computer Communications (C/T 8.2)

• Use the computer to search for information on the internet and in the school library.

 

 

 

 

 

 

2nd Six Weeks
