1st Six Weeks

 

Geography of the United States and related map skills; 2.5

·         Locate equator, 7 continents, 4 oceans on maps and globes

·         Locate selected rivers, mountain ranges and lakes in the U. S.

·         James River

·         Mississippi River

·         Rio Grande

·         Appalachian Mountains

·         Rocky Mountains

·         Great Lakes

 

General Map Skills; 2.6

·         Constructing simple maps including:

  • Title
  • Legend/Key
  • Directional indicator/ Compass rose

 

Civics, responsibilities of a good citizen; 2.10*

·         Respect and protect rights and property of others

·         Voting when making classroom decisions

·         Describe actions that improve the school and community

·         Demonstrate self-discipline and self-reliance

·         Practice honesty and trustworthiness

 

*To be taught in guidance, modeled on a daily basis, and reinforced through the Character Counts program.

 

2nd Six Weeks

 

Review and relate previously taught SOLs to the new material below:

 

History, compare the lives and contributions of American Indians (First Americans); 2.2

·         Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands

·         Sioux of the Plains

·         Pueblo of the Southwest

 

Identify and compare changes in community over time; 2.3

·         Buildings

·         Jobs

·         Transportation

·         Population

 

Geography; 2.4

·         Locate the regions of the Powhatan, Sioux & Pueblo

·         Compare climate, land, and plant life of these regions

·         Describe how people in these regions adapt to their environment

 

Civics, identify contributions of famous Americans; 2.11

3rd Six Weeks

 

Review and relate previously taught SOLs to the new material below:

·           Describe the differences between natural, capital, and human resources.

·           Requires people to make choices about producing and consuming goods and services.

·           United States is a land of people with diverse ethnic origins, customs, & traditions who contribute to community and unite Americans by common principles

5th Six Weeks
