Use of the Internet at School

So that students may enjoy and benefit from the vast wealth of resources housed on the World Wide Web, teachers at PKVES employ a number of techniques to safeguard students engaged in Internet activities.

  • Teachers preview sites used in lesson plans and provide students with clear instructions about what to do at the web sites involved in the lesson.
  • While on the Internet, students are supervised by their teacher.
  • All web content is filtered at the district level as an additional safety net.

With good planning and supervision along with built-in content filtering, we are confident that activities in which the students engage are safe, appropriate, and educationally beneficial.

Using Our Site at Home

It is important to recognize that while we carefully screen sites to which we link, we cannot control or alter the content of any site outside the "rockingham.k12.va.us" domain nor predict the path a user might follow beyond any link we specifically recommend. It is possible that information deemed to be objectionable by some may be only a few clicks away from an excellent resource we recommend. On the other hand, it is far more probable to stumble upon a vast number of additional GOOD resources linked from these sites. For better or worse, such interconnectedness is the nature of the web. We urge you to supervise your child's explorations on the web and encourage you to take advantage of the resources provided on the Rockingham County Public Schools' web site and those here at the PKVES site.

With concerns about how you can further safeguard your child, check the following resources. These are just a few of the many available on the web that address this issue:
