We are fortunate to live among a diverse population. At Peak View Elementary School, we have over 400 students. The ELL (English Language Learners) or ESL (English as a Second Language) program at PKVES serves culturally and linguistically diverse students whose native language is not English or have another language mainly spoken at home.

The objectives of the program is to provide students with the English and academic skills they need to be successful, active participants in school and in the community. We desire to be a resource to the faculty, staff, and community.

The expectations for our ESL students are:

  • To understand, speak, read, and write English in order to function in American society, while maintaining a regard for their cultural heritage and native language.
  • To function at or near grade level in mainstreamed classes.
  • To pass the Virginia Standard of Learning assessments.
  • To become responsible members of American society and serve as productive participants in the classroom and community.
