TITLE I READING

Title 1 is a Federally funded remedial reading program serving students in Kindergarten, First, Second and Third Grades at Plains Elementary. Students are enrolled through a referral process involving parents and teachers. At Plains, Title 1 Reading is both a pull-out and in-class program depending on the needs of the students.

Students participate daily in a variety of learning activities that are selected to improve literacy skills in specific areas of weakness. Areas of remediation include: phonics, fluency and comprehension. Teaching strategies range from more traditional methods to using the most up to date technology to insure our students success as readers.

As parents are an important part of a child's success in reading, many opportunities are available for parents to meet with teachers. Several afterschool meetings are held for parents, including conferencing about progress, parent-child activities and instructional opportunities. At Plains, reading success is the result of the active involvement of child, parent and teacher.

Plains Elementary School was named a Title I Distinquished School during the 2006-2007 school year.
