Plains Elementary has a variety of technology used in instruction. Each classroom is equipped with numerous computers for teacher and student use. Many classrooms also have peripheral devices that make classroom computers more effective. Seeing projectors and Smartboards in classrooms is not uncommon. These tools allow teachers to project what is on a computer and interact with the projection. The visual interaction instantly makes lessons come alive for students. Much of this technology has not been purchased with school or county money, but through teachers completing technology training (NETS*T or NTTI). This training not only resulted in money for technology but teachers being trained to use the technology they have earned. Teachers that don't have a projector are still able to check one out from the library enabling all teachers to have access to technology that aids instruction.
Plains also has two new computer labs. Classes have designated times in the computer lab three to five times a week. In the computer lab students can work on many age appropriate programs such as Conerstone, Accelerated Reader and SOL practice questions on the internet. Students in prekindergarten through second grade use other programs to practice basic matha hd literacy skills.
