Computer Lab

Lou Kirkendall

Program Overview

The computer lab is equipped with 48 IMac computers and two laser printers. We have 36 programs installed on all of the computers. In addition, we offer Skills Tutor, an individualized academic practice and tutorial program used by our third, fourth, and fifth grade students; S.T.A.R., a computer adaptive reading assessment, and Accelerated Reader, a computerized reading management program. Third through fifth grade students also work on acquiring more formal keyboarding skills.

PreKindergarten, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students go to computer lab twice weekly. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students visit the lab three times each week, with two of those sessions being primarily to work on the Corner Stone program.

Our goal is for all students to demonstrate a basic understanding of computer theory and technology skills as appropriate to their ages and abilities. We integrate technology into the curriculum using word processing, spreadsheets, databases, slide shows, the Internet, and proper technology terminology.

We believe meaningful learning takes place in a positive, orderly, nurturing, and child-centered environment. We try to provide that environment in our computer lab.
