To RCPS Students:

Welcome to the Rockingham County Public Schools student digital locker and e-mail system! All RCPS high school students and some middle school students are being provided with access to K12Files, a system by which you can easily transfer files to/from home. Some high school students, namely those in AP classes and other classes which need access to e-mail, are also being provided with filtered e-mail. Some middle school students are also provided with limited e-mail access. To provide this service, we have contracted with K12Technologies, a national provider of student e-mail.

Both digital locker and student e-mail are internet-based services which can be accessed from school or home. If you use Internet Explorer at school, there is a setting you must first check. Open the Internet Explorer Preferences (found under Explorer on the top menu bar). Scroll down to the Network option and click on Proxies. Make sure the box labeled "Use Web Proxy for all" is checked. You should only have to do this the first time you log in. If you use Safari as your browser you should not have to do this.

Digital Locker Service
If you have not accessed your digital locker during the previous school year, you will need to request this service through your librarian.  Once your account is set up, to access your digital locker, login by clicking on the link above. You'll then enter your username followed by @student.rockingham.k12.va.us. Your username will consist of your first initial+last name+last two digits of your SASI ID number.  For example, John Doe whose student number is 123456789 has a username of jdoe89. To login, John would enter jdoe89@student.rockingham.k12.va.us as his e-mail address. The first time you login, use your username also as your password. You will then be prompted to change your password to something you will remember. Once you have signed in to K12Files, just follow the on-screen directions to upload your files for transport back and forth between home and school. You are limited to 5 MB of digital locker space. Also, any file you transport into RCPS is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy. RCPS will not tolerate any abuse of this system and will terminate digital locker service of students who do so.

The following tips are for using digital locker service:

Please use this system responsibly by observing the following:

  1. All use of digital lockers is subject to the RCPS Acceptable Use Policy which states, among other things, that "The use of RCPS computer networks, including Internet access, must be in support of education and consistent with the educational objectives of Rockingham County Public Schools and the Virginia Board of Education." Please use this for educational purposes.
  2. Keep your account secure.  Don't share your password with anyone else.
  3. Digital lockers should NOT be considered private. RCPS teachers and administrators may open your digital locker.

Student E-mail Service for AP and other selected students
Students whose AP teachers have requested e-mail accounts will follow the same login procedure as above. Student e-mail with K12Pro is content filtered and faculty moderated.  Some features of K12Pro Mail are:

Your e-mail address is username@student.rockingham.k12.va.us. For example, John Doe's e-mail address is jdoe89@student.rockingham.k12.va.us.

Please use this system responsibly by observing the following:

  2. E-mail is restricted. High School users may e-mail other students within RCPS and some, but not all, external domains. Middle School users (8th graders in the Computer 8 course) may e-mail each other only. For example, students cannot e-mail felix@hotmail.com. If you send a message to one of these domains it will be redirected to a faculty member's K12Pro account.
  3. E-mail is content filtered. Any message you send with certain objectionable words will be redirected to a faculty member's K12Pro account.
  4. Keep your account secure.  Don't share your password with anyone else.
  5. E-mail should NOT be considered private. RCPS teachers and administrators may open your digital locker and mailbox.

I would be glad to hear from you as you use this service. Let me know what works well for you and what is unsatisfactory. Send an e-mail to me at: jhill@rockingham.k12.va.us

Sincerely,

Joe Hill
