For students entering the sixth grade for the 2008-2009 school year:
Certain prescribed immunizations are required for a child to enroll or attend public school in Virginia. Parents are responsible for providing documentation that all required immunizations are up to date or completed. These include the required doses of Tdap (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), polio, hepatitis B, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and varicella (chickenpox).
The 2006 Virginia General Assembly passed a law which requires all 6th grade students to have a Tdap booster shot prior to beginning the new school year. Please review your child’s immunization record. If the last Tdap or tetanus shot was administered more than five-years-ago or there is no documentation of a recent tetanus shot your child will not be able to begin school.
Shots may be obtained from your doctor, military clinics, or the health department.
The Tdap booster must be obtained by the start of the 2008-2009 school year. Students will not be admitted to school on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 without documentation of this immunization.
Shots are available, free of charge, at the Rockingham County Health Clinic.
