The Yes Program, Youth Experiencing Success is a hands on approach to education. The YES program takes on a vocational approach as workmanship and craftsmanship are incorporated into a daily routine.
The YES Program has several objectives that are taught as standards needed to be successful in the working world. One goal or objective is to encourage all students to come to school every day. If a student has perfect attendance for the year, they will split between $75 to $100.
A second goal is to encourage students to make the best grades that they can. Those students that reach this goal is treated to pizza and soft drinks every six weeks.
We try to incorporate the idea of honesty, pride, hard work, and developing the correct attitude that is needed when they become workers in the working world.
Within our busy schedule we take time out to practice skills such as interviewing for a job, filling out job application forms, math contests, spelling contests, and learning how to get up and work with a budget. We learn how to balance a check book and to write checks.
This year we have improved our school environment by building book shelves, and benches in our hallways. We construct projects for other schools in our county as well. We like to give to our community. We have constructed our 125 picnic tables since 1991. We have built buildings and batting cages for our local little league.
Our program works well with various business partners. Neff Lumber Mills, Superior Concrete, F&M Bank of Broadway, Farmers and Merchants Bank, A. W. Whitmore and Sons Grocery, Tony Harpine Drywall, Lantz Construction Co. are just a few that really support our program.
