Directions and Requirements:
You will create a project on the three branches of our
federal government. The entire project
should be very neat (typed if possible) and must be bound together. You can put it in a 3-ring binder, a report
folder, or anything else that will keep the project together and make it
attractive. Include the following pages
and follow directions or your project will not be accepted. The project will consist of:
Page 1: Cover
Sheet
--a title: “Separation of Powers: the Three Branches of our Federal Government”
--a colorful illustration
(this can be a printed picture)
--your name
Page 2:
Legislative Branch
--page three must have a heading that reads, “Legislative
Branch”
--In one paragraph, describe the organization of the federal legislative branch and how the members of this branch get their jobs. In this paragraph you must use the following words: Congress, House of Representatives, Senate, bicameral, 435, 100.
--In a second paragraph, describe the duties and powers of the legislative branch. In this paragraph you must use the following words: legislation, committees, impeach, override, approve.
----Find at least 3 pictures
or articles from a newspaper, magazine, or the internet that refer to the
legislative branch; glue them on your sheet (you may need to put some on the
back of the page or a separate page); you could use pictures of Senators or
Representatives, articles about proposed laws, etc.
--You may want to use construction paper to create a background as you paste different items on your pages
Page 3: Executive Branch
--page four must have a heading that reads, “Executive Branch”
--In one paragraph, describe the organization of the federal executive branch and how the members of this branch get their jobs. In this paragraph you must use the following words: President, Vice President, cabinet, bureaucracy.
--In a second paragraph, describe the duties and powers of the federal executive branch. Use the following words: State of the Union Address, veto, treaties, foreign, influence, appoint.
--Find at least 3 pictures or
articles from a newspaper, magazine, or the internet that refer to the executive
branch; glue them on your sheet (you may need to put some on the back of the page
or a separate page); you could use pictures or articles about the President,
Vice President, cabinet members, etc.
--You may want to use construction paper to create a background as you paste different items on your pages

judicial branch and how the members of this branch get their jobs. In this paragraph you must use the following
words: US Supreme Court,
--In a second paragraph, describe the duties and powers of this branch. Use the following words: jurisdiction, appeal, judicial review, federal laws, due process, civil law, criminal law, Marbury v. Madison.
--Find at least 3 pictures or
articles from a newspaper, magazine, or the internet that refer to the
legislative branch; glue them on your sheet (you may need to put some on the

about judges, court cases, crimes, etc.
