Dr. Kidd Announces Retirement
Has served as Superintendent since 1994
Dr. Kidd

Dr. John Kidd has announced that he will retire effective June 30, 2007. He has served as Superintendent since 1994.  Prior to that, he held many positions in RCPS including Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Director of Transportation, Principal of Broadway High School and McGaheysville Elementary School, and high school teacher.  He has served Rockingham County Public Schools for 37 years.

The School Board officially accepted his intent to retire at the October 10 meeting and will begin the search for a replacement immediately.

During John Kidd's tenure in RCPS, the school division has developed into a progressive, highly respected school division.  RCPS has become a leader in student achievement on the Virginia Standards of Learning.  Dr. Kidd's successful tenure of over thirteen years as Superintendent has established him as one of the most well known and respected superintendents throughout the state.  He is a former president of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.

In announcing his retirement to RCPS employees, Dr. Kidd wrote, "I will miss the involvement of all of you in my daily routine immensely, and the School Board will now have plenty of time to engage in a thorough search process for a new Superintendent.  One thing is for certain, the new Superintendent will inherit one of the most progressive and successful school divisions in Virginia."

Dr. Kidd will not be leaving the field of education, though.  He will continue to positively influence educators by teaching graduate courses with the College of Education at James Madison University.
