POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

JOB TITLE: General Supervisor

 

LOCATION: Central Office

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

 

PAY GRADE: Supervisor

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

 

Provides leadership in the areas of School attendance/Court liaison, Health and Physical Education, Counseling Services, and related programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Virginia School Attendance Laws and possessing interpersonal relationship skills to coordinate efforts with a variety of agencies are significant factors required. Must be knowledgeable of Rockingham County Schools policies and educational programs K-12 in determining individual service plans for students on behalf of the division in a team and court setting. Candidate must possess organizational skills necessary for planning and implementing professional development activities for assigned RCPS staff. Word processing skills and knowledge of database functions are essential.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in administration/supervision. Experience as a teacher and/or administrator is required.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to provide own transportation to school-related functions, the homes of students, community agencies, and schools throughout the division. Frequent operation office equipment is required. Candidate must possess good moral character.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in settings to include: Central office and schools throughout division. Frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Frequent operation of a vehicle and office equipment is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards. Regular contact with staff members, school administration, personnel of court and health organizations is required.

 

EVALUATION

The Assistant Superintendent of Instruction will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
