JOB TITLE: Director of Food and Nutrition Services

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Provides leadership and management functions of the Rockingham County Public Schools food service operation in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Demonstrated ability and professional leadership and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel, parents, administration, and members of the community as attested to by the Division Superintendent of Schools. The ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, staff, students, and parents. Must possess knowledge of nutrition and food service management and the ability to provide leadership and supervision to approximately 125 employees in the food service department. Must possess the ability to successfully administer a $2.5 million budget. Candidates must possess computer skills and/or computer program knowledge.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a degree in Nutrition, Food Business Management, or a related field. Successful experience in the area of food service is required and supervisory experience is preferred.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must be able to meet the criteria for the approved Rockingham County Public Schools driving list. Frequent operation of county owned vehicles is required to travel to schools throughout the division, school-related functions, administrative building, and central office. Frequent operation of office equipment is required. Candidate must possess good moral character.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in food service administrative office, school cafeterias, and kitchen sites throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.

 

EVALUATION

The Superintendent of Schools will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
