Rockingham County Public Schools will be opening its fourth high school at the beginning of the 2010 academic year. This 1,200 student facility, to be located just west of the town of Elkton on old U.S. 33, will house grades 9 through 12. Sharing the site with a new elementary school, River Bend Elementary School, this campus will serve the eastern side of the county.
The new school will be approximately 215,000 square feet. The two story academic wing will contain the General, Science, Art, Computer, Business and Special Education classrooms, and the Library. The one story portion of the school will contain spaces such as the Tech. Ed. shops and classrooms, the Band and Choral classrooms, a 650 seat auditorium, the Main and Auxiliary gymnasiums, the Commons and Cafeteria areas and the Administration area.
The site will include a track and field, football field, competition baseball and softball fields, several PE/practice fields, six tennis courts, two concessions buildings, and parking for students and faculty.
