Dayton Learning Center
High School Alternative
Education Program
Created in 1991 by Rockingham
County Public
Schools, the Dayton Learning Center High School Alternative Education
Program has as its mission to enable students from the four high
schools in Rockingham County to achieve academic success, gain valuable
self esteem, and receive a diploma from their home high
school. By completing their work in a learning environment that
relies on goal setting and self-confidence, students at DLC learn to
rely on themselves while being equipped with the tools to overcome
personal odds. While working in two subjects at a time in a
smaller classroom setting, students complete courses in a guided amount
of time. This schedule allows the teachers and students at DLC to
develop a trusting relationship in providing a positive educational
environment teaching the student the life skills of setting and
achieving goals. The Dayton Learning Center's High School
Alternative
Education Program is a powerful resource for RCPS in helping to
reduce the dropout rate by reaching those students who struggle in the
regular classroom setting. Also offered within the Alternative
Education Program is the Intensive English Program.
