Guidance

Greetings from Your School Counselors!

Welcome to Cub Run Elementary! We would like to take this opportunity to say hello to all of our students and parents. We are your School Guidance Counselors and will work with your children in their classrooms, small groups, and individually.

Commitment to Character

One of our core values at Cub Run Elementary School is character education. We believe that character education is the foundation for good citizenship and effective leadership. Our commitment-to-character program emphasizes the character traits of respect, citizenship, fairness, trustworthiness, caring, and responsibility. Your children will participate in this program in all aspects of their school day including classroom guidance.

Goals of Counseling

The School Counselor works directly with students in individual and group counseling sessions as well as in classroom guidance so that students may:

  • Be successful in school.
  • Establish effective study skills.
  • Adjust to a new school.
  • Develop positive feelings about work, family and society.
  • Build positive feeling toward self and others.
  • Cope with change in themselves and their surroundings.
  • Identify and accept their own and others strengths and weaknesses.
  • Recognize the causes and effects of their actions.
  • Become responsible for their own behavior.
  • Receive crisis intervention when necessary.

How Does School Counseling Work?

Counseling is conducted with students individually, in small groups and in classroom settings. Individual counseling is voluntary and confidential. Parental permission is obtained prior to any group counseling. Students are seen by the counselor when:

  • Parents request and indicate a need and desire that the counselor meet with their children.
  • Students request counseling.
  • Teachers, administrators, or other school staff refers the students.

We hope to assist all of our students as they aim for both academic and social excellence. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to meeting you and working with you and your children.
